Margaret is based in Cape Town and plays a unique electronic sound, earning herself recognition as the country’s longest standing and leading lady in the local deep house and techno scene. Her roots are shared between South Africa and the Seychelles, with many European summers spent in Berlin, it is no wonder that rhythm and dance is at the core of her being.
She initially began playing on vinyl in her late teens in the early 2000’s, hosting residencies at various cocktail bars before making her mark on South Africa’s nightclub and festival circuit. Throwing out deep-driving, percussive and hypnotic deep house and techno, she experiments and transitions smoothly within her sub-genres and blends the feminine with the masculine in her sets. The result is an explosive journey for both body and mind, with quality delivery being her utmost focus.
To understand the source she studied Advanced Music Production and is currently producing in her home studio. She was also a frequent at the Red Bull Studios in Cape Town over the years. Her ‘Solitude’ EP released in 2013 marked her as the first female electronic artist in South Africa to release a solo record.
Being a firm member of the underground scene in South Africa has led her onto the national stages alongside the country’s fiercest talents. With a range of residencies over the years she is currently a resident at Modular in Cape Town and a frequent at TOYTOY at And Club in Johannesburg. Other stand outs are Future Frequency Festival, LINKED Events, Lighthouse Festival Johannesburg, Origin Festival, Vault and Wolfkop Weekender.
Through her years of mastering the craft she holds her own and headlines many events and festivals. She has been seen fitting the bill for international acts such as ANNA, Black Coffee, Blanka, Charlotte De Witte, Claire Morgan, Danny Daze, Deetron, DJ T, Etapp Kyle, Floyd Lavine, Freddy K, Juliet Fox, Julian Jeweil, Konstantin Sibold, Lake People, Marcal, Marco Resmann, Roman Flugel, Sedeff Adasi, Steve Bug, Stimming and many more.
She currently runs her monthly night ‘ELEVATION’ at Modular Club in Cape Town, a deep raw hypnotic house and techno night in the city focusing on the journey of music through careful curation, extended sets and selective B2B’s. She hosts fellow artists from around the country and provides a platform for new and young talent, whilst promoting a strict music policy and an old school dance culture ethos. Behind the scenes she is forward-thinking, hard-working, focused and passionate – pushing her utmost for gender equality in the industry and helping other artists she believes in to gain recognition and traction.
